Abstract
Harbor construction projects are classified into various types according to project site. Most of the harbor projects, such as harbor structure, breakwater and dredging work, are located in areas that are affected by the wave conditions. Until now, the number of the working days for harbor construction have been estimated by applying the method considering the working days due to only weather conditions(Korean Society of Civil Engineers, 1969). However, this conventional estimation method is different from the actual field conditions, especially on harbor construction project, such as the fact that the effect of the wave is not considered so the estimated number of working days is too much. In this study, the numbers of working days obtained by the conventional method and the new method, estimated based on the long-term wave data derived from this study, were compared with the actual construction daily reports. As the result, the estimation of the annual workability rate is 70% from the conventional method and 45.5% from the new method considering the wave condition, almost similar to the 51.8% result of the actual construction daily reports analysis. From these results, it is necessary to consider the effect of the wave condition, which is the most important factor in the estimation of the number of working days for harbor construction project, especially for breakwaters. This new estimation method of the number of working days for harbor construction project considering wave condition is needed precise long-term wave data of the whole sea area in Korea and additional study is required in the future.
Key Words: Harbor construction; Working days; Weather condition; Wave condition; Long-term wave data
